John J. Egan (“Jack”) of Stony Point, NY died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY to his parents John and Jane (Keating) Egan. A graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, he earned an Associates of Science in Police Science, a Bachelor of Arts in Cross Cultural Studies, and a Master of Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Jack enjoyed a twenty-two-year career with the New York City Police Department, a majority with the Emergency Services Unit, where he received numerous commendations for valorous behavior in the line of duty. Prior to joining the NYPD, he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Midway during the Vietnam Campaign. Upon retirement from the NYPD, Jack was the Property Manager of Lehman College for fifteen years. Despite being retired from the NYPD for over a decade, he returned to service following the September 11, 2001 attacks to assist with security and rescue efforts at Ground Zero.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather, Joseph Keegan and his sister Margaret Willis. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Lois of Stony Point, NY; sons John Egan (Ariste) of Grosse Pointe, MI; Robert Egan (Kimberly) of Chester, NY; Brian Egan of Stony Point, NY; daughter Maura Martin (Adrian) of Groton, NY and sister, Patricia Moran of Cohassett, MA. Jack (“Pa”) cherished his eight grandchildren, Christian, Patrick, Emily, Robby, Dermot, Brendan, Kayleigh, and Fiona.
Jack enjoyed Irish and doo-wop music, gardening, home improvement projects and yelling at the television and his health care providers.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jack’s name and memory to Answer the Call and the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923. A Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY 10923 followed by a Private Cremation.
