John T. Fay

October 12, 1946 — February 25, 2026

John Thomas Fay (Johnny), 79 of Garnerville, New York, passed away peacefully on February 25,2026  after a short illness.    A lifelong resident of the North Rockland area, John was born on October 12, 1946, in Suffern, New York.  He was the beloved son of Edward Lewis Fay and Margaret King Fay, both of whom predeceased him — the original “Fay’s 1,” as he would later fondly define the generations.

After graduating from Haverstraw High School, John served his country in the United States Navy from March 1965 to March 1969, completing two tours in Vietnam. He was a proud veteran and a member of the American Legion Kearsing-Edwards Post 1600 in Pomona, maintaining a lifelong bond with all who served.  Upon leaving the Navy, John built a long and dedicated career as a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 373. A skilled tradesman, he worked faithfully for many years before retiring in 2008. He took great pride in his work and in the brotherhood of his union. Johnny was also a member of the Haverstraw Elks Club Lodge #877, valuing the camaraderie and commitment to community it provided.

John was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 41 years, Brenda Dombrowski Fay and his grandson Braylon Patrick Fay.

He is survived by his two sons, John Patrick Fay (Kristy) and Jared Fay, who were the pride and joy of his life — the continuation of “Fay’s 2, 3, and 4,” a phrase he proudly coined to describe the growing generations of his family. He is also survived by 2 step grandchildren Ashley and Austin Desimone, and

dozens of beloved cousins — affectionately known as his “Cuzisters and Brozens” — a testament to the close-knit and spirited Fay family.

Known for his great sense of humor and signature dry wit, John had a way of delivering a line that would catch you off guard and leave you smiling. He will be remembered for his patriotism, his strong work ethic, his devotion to family, and the steady, dependable presence he brought to those around him.

He leaves behind loving memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
