Joseph D. O’Connor, age 87 of Garnerville, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Joseph was born in the Bronx on January 29, 1932 to the late David and Irene (nee Troy) O’Connor. He attended Iona College in New Rochelle where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and pursued a career in accounting. He married Anne DeLange on March 31, 1957 and shortly thereafter served proudly in the U.S. Army in Japan until his honorable discharge two years later. Joseph and his family moved to Garnerville in 1970 where he became an active and faithful member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church serving in the Religious Education Program and the Holy Name Society for many years. He was employed with the Federal government as an IRS agent until is his retirement in 2004. Surviving Joseph are his wife Anne (DeLange) O’Connor along with their children: Janine (Eugene) Bienskie of Chester, NY, Anne (Kevin) Maguire of Garnerville, NY, David (Katherine) of Greensboro, NC, Stephen (Robin) of Bath, PA., Michele (Christopher) Wing of New Windsor, NY, his sister Irene Berger, Boston, MA., grandchildren: Matthew (Heather), Paul (Katie), Michael (Rachel), Christopher, Carolyn, Patrick, Brendan, Ryan, and Colin. Great grand-children Emma and Joseph along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to Angela Paisley who provided compassionate and attentive care to Joseph during the last three years. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brothers Frank and John. Visitation will be held at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. on Monday, April 22 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY on Tuesday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. Internment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
